BIOGRAPHY/MEMOIR | HISTORY

It is 1596 and in Mexico the Inquisition is at its most efficient. A young man trembles in his cell as he prays for salvation, torn between the Christianity he was schooled in and his ancestral faith. What heresies will the Holy Office uncover? Can he protect his mother and sisters?

Product Information

Lanyon's historical research is amazing and she has woven it into an incredibly captivating read. Following three generations of the Carvajal family as they flee persecution in Spain. Arriving in Mexico they face of lifetime of secrecy, deceit and false alliances. I have come away with a rich picture of the times. Like 'Even Silence Has An End' by Ingrid Betancourt, this book of persecution made us all grateful to be living in Melbourne where we do have the freedom to follow our beliefs. I highly recommend this.

Anna Lanyon is the author of Malinche's Conquest and The New World of Martin Cortes.
